The Indonesian Air Force is seeking to acquire 18 AGM-65K2 “Maverick” air-to-ground missiles and 39 training missiles in a deal that could be worth $25 million and net significant proceeds to principal contractor Raytheon.

U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress this week that the deal would call for 18 missiles, 36 captive air training missiles and three maintenance training missiles as well as spare parts, repair tools, test equipment, and technical support.

“The Indonesian air force needs these missiles to train its F-16 pilots in basic air-to-ground weapons employment,” the agency said. “The quantities in the proposed sale will support the IAF’s existing fleet of 10 F-16s, as well as the 24 F-16s being provided as Excess Defense Articles.

“The proposed sale will foster continued cooperation between the U.S. and Indonesia, making Indonesia a more valuable regional partner in an important area of the world.”

Indonesia has already been a customer for the “Maverick” in the past, and the deal is expected to be approved. The missile has been exported to more than 30 American allies.
